
In addition to summer activities offered by Houston ISD, the City of Houston offers programs for HISD youth.
Activities range from arts and crafts to swimming classes to nature excursions.
Summer Day Camp
The City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s 2024 Summer Enrichment Program will operate at 53 Community Centers from June 10 through Aug. 16.
Parents must register their children online for this 10-week day-camp style program for youth ages 6-13. The cost is $30.00 per child per week.
Fee exemptions are available to parents or guardians who qualify. Appropriate documentation is required. Ask for more information regarding qualification criteria. The following activities are offered:
- Crafts
- Nutrition
- Fun fitness
- Nature exploration
- Recycling awareness
- Bird watching
Youth Basketball
Youth Basketball Program with Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD), Houston Rockets and The Greater Houston Police Activities League (GHPAL) offer a recreational youth basketball program while providing a safe environment.
The program is free for children 9 – 17 years old from July 1 – Aug. 2. Registration is online from June 17 – July 8.
The program is held twice per week on either Tuesday – Thursday or Monday – Wednesday for one hour per practice.
Participants will learn at practices sport-specific skills:
- Passing
- Catching
- Dribbling
- Shooting
- Defense
- Agility
- Speed
In addition, they will learn motor skills development, fitness conditioning, and have opportunities for healthy competition.
An end-of-season tournament will be played Aug 3. at Fonde Community Center located at 110 Sabine St., Houston, TX 77007.
Pool Season
Pool Season is from May 25 – Sept. 1 at Aquatic Pool Centers across the city at no charge, and the following programs are available as follows:
- Water Fitness
- Swimming Programs
- Learn To Swim Program
