Houston Independent School District (HISD) is paving the way for aspiring educational leaders with its innovative Principal Academy program. Designed to groom high-performing instructional leaders for future success as principals, residency offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and development.
“The principal academy is an innovative program where HISD is training aspiring principals and building up our leadership capacity,” said Lafoscia Maxie, current principal apprentice in HISD’s Principal Academy.
HISD’s Principal Academy offers a prestigious year-long residency for aspiring educational leaders. Selected candidates work alongside current principals, gaining invaluable experience in school administration.
The key points of the Academy are:
- Highly selective program grooming high-performing instructional leaders.
- Residents serve as full-time, paid employees under the Department of Leadership & Professional Development.
- Focus on hands-on experience and comprehensive curriculum.
- Graduates emerge ready to lead as confident and competent principals.
“The best part of the principal academy is that it actually offers practical information and practical experience before you actually step foot as a school leader on a campus,” said Bryan Jones, current principal apprentice in HISD’s Principal Academy.
