HISD’s When I Grow Up Career Expo

Houston Independent School District (HISD) recently hosted an exciting event that opened doors to endless possibilities for our students and families. The annual When I Grow Up Career Expo took center stage on Saturday, showcasing over 100 exhibitors from high-demand industries and offering a day filled with fun, learning, and inspiration.

At the expo, students had the unique opportunity to explore a wide range of career options across various fields. The expo provided a glimpse into the diverse and dynamic world of careers awaiting our future leaders.

The expo had a career fair, a hiring fair, student performances, competitions, food trucks and more than 100 vendors.

“We’re out here promoting careers,” Kaire Hopson Onajobi, HISD’s director of career and technical education, said. “We’re trying to get little ones to get other career ideas. We’re trying to make sure the older ones are ready and prepared.”

Students interacted with industry professionals, engaged in hands-on activities, and gained valuable insights into the skills and qualifications needed for different career paths. Others talked with companies looking for new employees.

Some vendors conducted on-site job interviews as part of the job fair. Also, HISD provided printers, so students could print their resumes and clothing racks for students to change their clothes so they could look professional and ready for the interview.

Thank you to all the exhibitors, educators, and participants who made the When I Grow Up Career Expo a resounding success!
