HISD Sends NES Students Abroad By Funding An Essential Document

This January 3rd, Houston ISD is beginning the year with great news, showcasing its efforts to break barriers and expand horizons for its students. Eligible 8th graders from the district’s NES program will soon embark on an exciting journey to Costa Rica or Panama, while 7th graders will explore American destinations such as D.C. or Boston.

All of this is made possible thanks to HISD covering all travel expenses, including passports. It’s heartwarming to see parents joining their children — as required by law —  in this important milestone, as they apply for passports and prepare for these life-changing experiences.

HISD is looking to break down barriers and make this expansive opportunity available to families in NES.  According to the official page of Travel.State.Gov, the cost of obtaining a passport for children under 16 is approximately $150, an amount that will now be saved by these families. The passports will remain valid for the next five years.
