
Houston ISD is co-hosting a number of events Aug. 3 to help ready students and parents for the upcoming school year along with community partners.
Organizations citywide are rallying to provide backpacks, school supplies, immunizations, and food to families in need for the 2024-25 school year which begins Aug. 12.
Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest
- Date: Aug. 3, 2024
- Time: 1-7 p.m.
- Location: George R. Brown Convention Center (1001 Avenida De Las Americas, 77010)
Partnering with Shell, the Houston Mayor’s Office is once again holding the Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest to help ready economically disadvantaged Houston-area families to send their elementary students back to school. The event will feature on-site health, dental, and vision screenings, immunizations, and other social services. Additionally, 25,000 backpacks with school supplies will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
NHC’s Back to School Bash

Natural Head Corp. will offer food, face-painting, children’s activities, and more, including complimentary school supplies to be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Back to School Carnival
- Date: Aug. 3, 2024
- Time: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Location: Buckner Children and Family Services of Houston (8600 Sweetwater Ln., 77037)
Buckner CFSH are offering food, music, and fun at their annual back-to-school carnival. Attending school-aged children will receive a free backpack, shoes, and socks.
Back to School Birth Certificate Event

The Harris County Clerk’s Office is offering assistance in obtaining birth certificates needed for school registration. The first 100 people in line will receive one birth certificate free of charge, and any additional birth certificates will be available for $23 each.
