District Officials Tell Board Bond Projects Long Overdue

The Houston ISD board heard a report including proposed revisions to the 2024 bond in a June 27 presentation by Superintendent Mike Miles, members of the Community Advisory Committee and district officials.

“The last bond was in 2012,” Miles said, adding that this was mostly geared toward the district’s high schools. “The last time we made a significant investment in our elementary and middle schools was in 2007, and even then we didn’t meet the needs of all the schools at that time.”

Miles said the bond funds are needed not only for repairs but also security improvements and expanding the district’s Pre-K capacity, as well as technology that will help students prepare for the current workforce.
