HISD Closes Schools For Two Days In Preparation For Severe Winter Storm

Houston, TX – In response to the forecasted severe winter weather conditions, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) has announced that all schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22, 2025. This decision comes as a safety protocol to ensure the protection and well-being of students, staff, and families.

Superintendent Mike Miles addressed the public in a recent video message on HISD Now streamed on YouTube, emphasizing the district’s commitment to making informed decisions based on weather expert guidance. “We’ve been listening to the weather experts and have decided to close the district on Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22, in order to give everyone enough time to prepare for the severe winter weather,” said Miles.

The superintendent also took the opportunity to urge the community to stay safe during the extreme cold temperatures. “Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for watching HISD Now,” Miles added, giving parents and guardians confidence in the district’s efforts to maintain safety. HISD officials encourage families to tune in for further updates through official communication channels, including the HISD website and social media platforms.

As the winter storm approaches, the district reminds everyone to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the dangers of cold weather. With the cancellation of classes for two days, the district hopes to give families ample time to prepare for any disruptions caused by the storm.
