Removal Of Lead, Other Efforts Included In Bond Proposal

In addition to measures aimed at upgrading campuses districtwide and expanding programs such as pre-K and CTE, safety improvements and security infrastructure repairs are high priorities in the Houston ISD bond proposal.

The bond proposal sets aside $1.04 billion for the following safety measures including lead abatement:

Remove all lead from all water sources in HISD schools
Conduct comprehensive testing for air, water, buildings, and grounds
Update HVAC systems for optimal classroom temperature control
Enhance security infrastructure and technology at campuses
Build a secure single point of entry checkpoints to control access to all schools
Add a minimum of one additional filtered water station to each campus
