Removal Of Lead, Other Efforts Included In Bond Proposal

In addition to measures aimed at upgrading campuses districtwide and expanding programs such as pre-K and CTE, safety improvements and security infrastructure repairs are high priorities in the Houston ISD bond proposal

The bond proposal sets aside $1.04 billion for the following safety measures including lead abatement:

  • Remove all lead from all water sources in HISD schools
  • Conduct comprehensive testing for air, water, buildings, and grounds
  • Update HVAC systems for optimal classroom temperature control
  • Enhance security infrastructure and technology at campuses
  • Build a secure single point of entry checkpoints to control access to all schools
  • Add a minimum of one additional filtered water station to each campus
